Re-design a self service machine for a client with a specific disbility. Design the product with a user centred approach via interviews and tests with the client to ensure the product is personal and achieves its goal.
After interviewing the client multiple times, they expressed great discomfort when using an ATM. I created many low fidelity prototypes and tested them with the user to ensure that they were comfortable using the device. Taking into account ergenomic data and donald norman's 7 principles of design, the dimensions of the product were finalised as well as optimising its intuative usability aspects. The final prototype consisted of a card reader that was attached underneath the ATM, at a more comfortable height for wheelchair users, via a retractable extention cord. The card reader was compact but was chunky enought to fit comfortably into the user's hand. Safety mechanisms were built in place to ensure the user was comfortable while using the device while deterring vandalism.
